Scorecast Bet

Scorecast bets are a special variant of the double-bet and are very popular especially for soccer games, where bettors wager on two predefined events of a game. Only if both events are realized, the bet is won. Usually, these predefined events focus on the questions of who scores the first goal and what the exact final score will be.

Example for a scorecast bet

For this example, we assume a fictional soccer game between Germany and France:

The regulations for scorecast sportsbooks generally state that for soccer games, only the regular game time plus over time counts. If extra time or penalties are required to establish the winner of a game, these usually do not count with regards for the realization of the scorecast bet.

Each bookmaker has its own rules and regulations

Sometimes, unplanned events can create a situation where the bettor must rely on the exact definition of the rules and regulations of the bookmaker that the bet was placed with. For example, a game might be cancelled prematurely due to various reasons. Or, as this happens frequently, how is the situation dealt with when the bettor selects a player for the first goal bet who eventually won't even be on the pitch because the team manager decided to favor another player. In most cases, bookmakers will simply declare the bet invalid and return the wager. Hoowever, bettors are well advised to make themselves familiar with the respective rules of their bookmakers in order to prevent unpleasant surprises, as these rules may differ greatly between different sports betting providers.
Also, own goals are a special case with regards to scorecast sportsbooks. What happpens if the very first goal of the game is an own goal? Is the bet lost or will the selection simply switch towards the second scorer? Usually, many bookmakers apply the policy that if a player causes an own goal, this player will not count as the one to have scored the first goal with regards to the scorecast bet.
Scorecast bets are popular in baseball and tennis as well, although naturally certain differences must be regarded especially when compared to soccer games. For tennis games, scorecast selections are usually comprised of the player to win the first set and the competition.

Generally scorecast sportsbooks are not only popular from the point of view of bettors, but also from the bookmakers perspective, as this type of bet incorporates a high risk and statistically low winning prospects for the bettor. On the other side, the increased risk allows for very tempting odds which in turn may generate extraordinary figures if the bet turns out successfully.
