Borussia Dortmund v AS Monaco – two fantastic attacks meet in Dortmund
Two of the underdogs for the Champions League trophy have been drawn against each other in the quarter-finals of the competition. Borussia Dortmund are second only to Barcelona in the amount that they have scored – 25 – which included and 8-4 win over Legia Warsaw in November in what is the highest-scoring match in the tournament’s history; coincidentally beating a record that AS Monaco held after hammering Deportivo La Coruna 8-3 in 2003 on the way to their first and only final – losing to Jose Mourinho’s Porto.
The Ligue 1 club are three points clear at the top of their domestic league and look like having the strength to deny Paris Saint-Germain the title for the first time in five seasons. Their attack has been rampant, scoring 88 times in just 31 games, giving them a goal difference that is 19 better off than the Parisians. In Europe, they took part in one of the most entertaining Champions League matches in recent years, coming back from a 5-3 loss to Manchester City to beat them at home and reach the last-eight.
Dortmund topped Group F, which included Real Madrid, before seeing off Benfica over two legs, despite going into their home fixture losing 1-0. Domestically, however, they have struggled and are currently fourth, with the Champions League and DFB-Pokal (they face Bayern in a semi-final) their only hope of silverware.
Apart from Leicester City (31.0), AS have the longest odds to win the competition. They are available at 14.0, with Barcelona (3.35) and Bayern Munich (3.60) the standout favourites. For the first-leg in Germany, the Yellows are rated at 1.55 to take an advantage to the Principality. They are 1.16, with a Double Chance bet, to avoid defeat, while it would not be a surprise if both teams find the net (1.45). That outcome would suit Monaco, with scoring an away goal their primary concern on Tuesday night. Leonardo Jardim’s men can be backed at 5.50 to win on the night, with a draw 4.85.
