Hoffenheim v Bayern Munich – can Hoffenheim stay in the Champions League places?
Considering that both captain Sebastian Rudy and Niklas Sule have agreed to move to champions and leaders Bayern Munich in the summer, this season may well be Hoffenheim’s best chance to secure Champions League football for the very first time. Unbeaten until January, when they lost to RB Leipzig, the club have impressed greatly under the management of 29-year-old Julian Nagelsmann and are currently third in the Bundesliga with eight matches to play.
Finishing above Borussia Dortmund – they are currently one point and a position behind – would be a monumental achievement and is still very much achievable as the two clubs meet in early May, in a match that could well determine which team gains qualification to the group stages. Their nearest challengers, Hertha Berlin, are seven points behind and will struggle to close the gap having lost 10 times.
For Bayern, another league title – their fifth in a row – now looks an inevitability, with newly-promoted RB Leipzig a distant 13 points behind. Carlo Ancelotti has continued the dominance of his predecessor Pep Guardiola, while the Bavarians are also in the last-eight of the Champions League, where they will face Real Madrid.
Their results have been stunning, with 20 wins in 26, conceding just 13 times. They have won seven games in a row and are unbeaten since late November, when FC Rostov won 3-2 in the Champions League. Star striker Robert Lewandowski has been a major part behind this run, scoring 24 times – the league’s best, along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Given that Nagelsmann’s side have lost just twice, Bayern will have a tough ask getting maximum points at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena. However, Tipbet have 62 markets for the game and have the champions as 1.60 to continue their fantastic run with three points. With Dortmund waiting to pounce, a draw (4.30) would be a more useful point for 1899. A home win, meanwhile, is 5.25 and would go some way to securing a Champions League place.
