Tottenham Hotspur v Borussia Dortmund – a big clash in the first matchday of the Champions League
Spurs begin their Champions League campaign after they came second in the Premier League last season and were the only club to offer a real title challenge. They were drawn as third seeds and will have to get past APOEL, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund if they are to reach the next stage.
Their pitch for this whole season is Wembley, which is also where the England national team play. This has been a struggle for them to play their matches so far and results last season in the Champions League were disappointing, winning just once there. This meant that they had to play in the Europa League after finishing third.
So far in 2017/18 they have again not won at Wembley. They first lost to Chelsea and could then only draw with Burnley. If they cannot stop this problem then advancing in the Champions League and being competitive in the Premier League will not be possible.
Their opponents Borussia are currently top of the German Bundesliga after the champions Bayern Munich lost their first match of the campaign last week- this is a rare event, so the Yellows must continue well to keep their one-point advantage. Dortmund have seven points and they beat Wolfsburg and Hertha Berlin before drawing with Freiburg.
Tipbet.com is a brilliant place for sports betting and their offering also includes a massive live-betting capability as well as the live-streaming of many others. They also have season bets for many of the biggest competitions. These cover the tournaments before they start all the way to the finish, which means that odds change as results come in. In the Champions League, Europe’s best club competition, Tipbet have Real Madrid at 4.60 – they are the holders.
At Wembley, the odds are close and a frantic attacking match is very possible. Spurs are considered the slight favourites with Tipbet, and can be backed at 2.30 to start with three points. Dortmund are 3.05, though a draw – available at 3.55 - would not be such a negative result as this is just the first of six matchdays.
