This match takes place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and it has two English clubs meeting with both in differing form. Both West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are situated in London but have had very different results so far in this season. Tottenham have had a great start to the season and are third in the Premier League. They also drew with Real Madrid last week in the Champions League, and have improved their home form at Wembley, which is their temporary home whilst White Hart Lane is renovated.

Spurs are level with second place Manchester United, and five points off first place Manchester City. Their draw with Real Madrid means that they could finish first or second in a difficult Champions League group, where opponents are also Borussia Dortmund.

With Mauricio Pochettino as manager the north London club have nearly won the Premier League in the last two seasons but that is a trophy they are yet to claim, so maybe the EFL Cup or even the FA Cup would represent a realistic target. The club have already beaten Barnsley in this competition, though due to them being in the Champions League that was enough to get them to the last-16 stage. If they do advance past the Hammers then they could be drawn against some of the biggest teams in the Premier League that are still involved.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is in danger of losing his job. The Croatian has seen his team perform poorly for a long period – since last season – so any more defeats could see him replaced, especially after he signed many new players over the summer. His team are 16th in the Premier League and close to the relegation zone. When they last played Spurs, last month, they lost 3-2.
